This position reports directly to the Area Manager and must work in coordination with co-workers to be effective.  This position is primarily responsible for setting and starting molds at current standard.  Also responsible for molding press and/or robotics troubleshooting processing problems and keeping updated setup records. This posting is for 2nd shift, working 6pm - 6am on a rotating 2 week schedule.




MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)


  • Change molds and inserts in a fast and efficient manner (approximately 1 hour), set and water molds per setup sheet.
    • Load and verify proper Injection Molding Machine (IMM) set-up in a safe and effective manner
    • Complete insert changes in a timely and safe manner
  • Responsible for daily silo counting of resin and daily moisture readings
  • Ensure area is clean and clear of tools, hoses and other equipment when setup is done.
  • Make sure proper material is placed in hopper, purge barrel as needed.
  • Perform basic PM on molds and equipment
    • Clean and lube all running molds
    • Perform weekly dryer PMs
    • Perform daily/weekly/monthly/annual Mold Machine PMs
  • Take inventory of supplies and compounds (weekly)
  • Perform hourly quality checks and record in the designated book
  • Communicate any pertinent information to incoming and outgoing shift.
  • Start-up molding machines with accuracy to ensure there is limited scrap - use the latest setup parameters assuring job is running at standard - troubleshoot and repair malfunctions
  • Shut down molding machines with accuracy to ensure limited purging is needed
  • Complete scrap tickets as needed
  • Initiate mold repair sheets when molds are pulled. Initiate maintenance work orders when machines or auxiliary equipment are in need of repair.
  • Have a basic understanding of robotics operations and complete automation set-up for Sepro Robots
  • Has the knowledge and ability to train others on the proper use of Sepro Robots
  • Perform minor mold/press repairs (water lines, nozzle tip replacements, inserts, hot runner repair, heater band replacement, thermocouple replacement)
  • Troubleshoot and work closely with maintenance and engineering when needed to ensure machines are repaired and operational
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ancillary equipment including dryers, conveying system, chillers and thermolators
  • Responsible for the following Plantstar transactions:
    • Loading and verifying proper work order and part number
    • Entering scrap and downtime reasons
  • Works in conjunction with engineering, quality and management qualifying new molds, presses and equipment.
  • Perform new equipment set up procedures and process validation
  • Provides inputs on molding production standards
  • Prepares molds for shipment to and from toolmakers
  • Responsible for 6S in the IMM and Technician areas
  • Complete daily safety activities including hoist and PIT inspections
  • Relieve operators for break
  • Other duties as assigned

Work is mainly in a plant work environment with minimal exposure to normal office environments. 




 Strength, agility, movement: Work requires occasional lifting, bending, pulling, climbing, reaching or kneeling.  Work includes frequent movement within the facility.  Occasionally, work is in hard to reach locations or requires working in awkward positions.  Occasional climbing and ladder work is required.  


 Sensory ability: Hearing must be sufficient to communicate by telephone, vision must be sufficient to read printed reports and items on the computer screen.


 Communications: Verbal communication is constant; much of the time is spent exchanging ideas and information with coworkers.


 Level of exertion: Work is occasionally heavy, with occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force to handle materials or equipment.




  1. Reading: The position requires reading ability at a level sufficient to read text of considerable difficulty, requiring understanding of complex rules, technical procedures, reports, specifications, manuals or interpretations.


  1. Writing: Writing skills are required at a level consistent with basic communication.


  1. Verbal Skills: The position requires verbal skills at a level consistent with providing clear and concise information on technical matters.


  1. Mathematical Ability:  Math ability needs to be at a level consistent with calculating rates and proportions.


  1. Reasoning Ability:  Reasoning ability needs to be at a level consistent with solving apparent problems through well established procedures.  Requires some independent judgment, as when dealing with safety issues or equipment issues.




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.  Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, plus 4 years of related technical training or equivalent of 6 years technical work experience.  Experience as a molding technician and/or mold setter is preferred.


Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.  Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
