    Company Information: Horton, Inc., a global airflow industry leader in reliability, service and innovation has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance Manager to work in our Carmel, IN location.

     

    DIMENSIONS:

    Manages and directs both the Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance departments for the Horton Carmel, IN location.

     

    SUMMARY STATEMENT:

    Manages the manufacturing engineering process for Horton Carmel, working closely with design engineering, production, quality, and other support areas to develop the best practical methods for the manufacture of quality products and directing all facilities function, including maintenance, grounds, heating and cooling, building layout and remodeling, machine maintenance, tooling purchase and inventory. In addition will coordinate facility capital plans and manufacturing engineering and facilities budgets.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)

     

    Establishes current and long-range objectives, plans, and policies, subject to approval by Senior Management

     

    Creates a technical vision for the company and plans for implementation of new technical projects or product lines.

     

    Dispenses advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures, consistent with established policies and Senior Management approval.

     

    Works with product development, sales, and marketing to discern competitiveness of new technologies.

     

    Creates technical budgets, allocates resources, and determines schedules of product releases or project deadlines.

     

    Analyzes new technologies and runs competitive analysis.

     

    Manages Tooling department and Engineering.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. 

     

    Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

      

    Reviews engineering designs both current and new to determine whether they can be manufactured in a practical manner and suggests modifications to designs that are necessary for manufacturability.

     

    Works with production staff to develop priorities for capital improvement projects based on production demands and the quality of opportunities.

     

    WoWorks to improve plant layout for efficiency and capacity. Reviews plant layout designs presented by manufacturing engineering and production staff and provide recommendations to management for approval.

    MeMeets with production control staff to develop and maintain capacity plan for production facilities and equipment.

     

    Coordinates facilities modifications, additions and upkeep.  Develops physical plans for additions or modifications to the building and coordinates with local building and zoning officials to obtain approvals.  Develops budget estimates for construction or repair and obtains upper management approval for expenditures.  Manages the use of outside vendors as contractors for construction and repair services, grounds, maintenance, and custodial services.

     

     

    COMMON PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

    EQUIPMENT USED

     

    Uses a computer terminal, network software, business software, business operating system, and general office equipment.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    Work is in an office and plant environment.  The worker is occasionally exposed to moving machinery and noise.

    Qualifications

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    1. Strength and movement: Work requires occasional lifting, pulling, pushing, and handling.  Keyboard use is required.  Reaching for reports, documents, etc. is frequent.  Movement within and outside the facility to observe work in process and communicate with staff is frequent.
    2. Sensory ability: Vision must be sufficient to read instructions and words and numbers on paper and computer screens. Far vision must be sufficient to observe production processes.
    3. Communication: Verbal communication is frequent, with much of the time spent giving work direction and training to staff or communicating with personnel from various departments.
    4. Level of exertion: Work is light, requiring exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move printed materials or packages.

     

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    1. Reading Ability: The position requires the ability to read text of considerable difficulty requiring understanding of complex rules, technical procedures, reports, specifications, manuals or interpretations.
    2. Writing: Writing skills are required at a level consistent with the ability to writing text that conveys technical information and is designed to persuade.
    3. Verbal Skills: Verbal communication needs to be on a level consistent with conveying guidance on technical information and occasionally resolving grievances or disputes in conjunction with supervisory responsibility.
    4. Math Skills: The position requires the ability to conduct operations research or perform calculations involving algorithms, calculus or advanced statistical methods.
    5. Reasoning Ability: Reasoning ability is required at the level of solving extremely vague problems by applying strategic thinking, abstract reasoning or developing theories, designs or technical procedures.

     

    EMPLOYMENT SELECTION CRITERIA

     

    Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent.

    5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing facility

    Experience managing projects and direct reports

    Must be detail oriented and extremely organized with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget

    Direct experience working with customers

    Experience with lean manufacturing preferred

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.  Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
