    Company Information: Horton, Inc., a global airflow industry leader in reliability, service and innovation has an opening for a Production Manager to work in our Carmel, IN location.

     

    Position Summary:

    1. Provides daily leadership, oversight, coaching, and training facilitation to groups of employees engaged in production activities. Coordinates production schedules and works closely with other staff and employees to execute shipments for on time delivery. Responsible for product quality requirements, application of established manufacturing process, and personnel allocation. Administers policies and controls practices in the areas of human relations, attendance, safety, quality, 6S, and budget. Provides support and resources to maximize continuous improvement efforts. Facilitates problem solving and conflict resolution efforts in order to maximize individual and team potentials. Work involves a considerable amount of initiative, decision making and high level of independent judgment.

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)

     

    1. Maintain a safe work environment.
      1. Ensure Safety Policy and guidelines are being followed
      2. Proactively find and correct potential safety hazards on the shop floor.
      3. Cleanliness 6s of the shop floor
    2. Coach and support area of responsibility
      1. Completes training plans for production employees to identify job required skill training and other training topics relating to methods and processes which improve efficiency and quality. 
      2. Monitors the training process to ensure employees receive the identified job skills and career development training. 
    3. Daily communication and coordination with teams, other managers and departments.
      1. Work collaboratively with supply chain, engineering, quality and other departments to reach business goals. 
    4. Direct work assignments in accordance with the production schedule, plans and organizes activities to meet deadlines.
      1. Coordination of the production group to best utilizes personnel.  Provides training for departmental personnel and assist in the selection of employees. 
      2. Authorizes overtime and conducts performance evaluation.
      3. Prepare and maintain production reports and records, taking corrective action when necessary.
      4. Direct the production of component parts and products efficiently within established specifications for quality and volume with an emphasis on employee safety.
      5. Reviews and recommends changes to master production schedule to best enhance productivity. 
    5. Identify and implement continuous improvement projects, working with other departments
      1. Develops methods of improvements tin current production practices to promote efficiency and lower costs
      2. Identifies and recommends production objectives and capital investment plans. 
    6. Ensures consistent policy and procedure administration per company guidelines. 
      1. Prepare corrective actions, progressive discipline, and performance improvement plans.
      2. Prepare and deliver annual performance evaluations and individual training plans.
      3. Assists employees in career and personal development activities
    7. Consults with the Director of Manufacturing and Human Resources Manager to discuss work force availability and staffing needs, and/or overtime utilization.
      1. Participates in the selection of employees through the internal posting process and external new hires. 
    8. Other duties as assigned

    EQUIPMENT USED

     

    System software – Microsoft, Oracle, and misc.  Utilize measuring equipment, various hand tools and material handling equipment.  May on occasion use production equipment such as machine tools, metal finishing equipment, and assembly/packing equipment.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    Work is in a production environment with exposure to noise. Accountable for all shifts of the applicable department, therefore work hours may need to fall outside of the typical work day. 

     

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Strength and movement: Work requires occasional lifting, reaching, and handling of paper and equipment.  Occasional use of a keyboard is required.  Observation of machine operations and handling of parts requires occasional crouching, kneeling and stooping.  A considerable amount of time is spent moving within the work area to communicate with staff.
    2. Sensory ability: Vision must be sufficient to read instructions and words and numbers on paper and computer screens. Far vision, depth perception and field of vision must be sufficient to view work processes.
    3. Communication: Verbal communication occurs frequently, with much of the time spent communicating and providing training or work direction to staff members.
    4. Level of exertion: Work is light, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move equipment or materials.  Work includes frequent movement within the department.

     

     

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    1. Reading Ability: The position requires the ability to read text of medium difficulty and comprehension of methods, logic, technical manuals, and blueprints.
    2. Writing: The position requires writing skills at a level sufficient to persuade, such as when writing reports or proposals.  Must have the ability to convey non-technical and some technical information.
    3. Verbal Skills: Verbal communication needs to be on a level consistent with providing non-technical and technical information, ability to speak at meetings or in public.  Incumbent may be asked to provide advice or resolve conflicts or technical disputes.                         
    4. Math Skills: The position requires the ability to understand algebraic operations, statistics, and/or basic geometric or trigonometric calculations in the course of assisting employees with production concerns.
    5. Reasoning Ability: Reasoning ability is required at the level of solving difficult to identify problems, where facts may be insufficient or misleading, requiring extensive inquiry or research extending into unrelated work areas.  Solutions require integration and interpretation of information and considerable independent judgment.  Strategic planning is included.

    Qualifications

    Requires 5-7 years of supervisory/management work experience in a manufacturing environment.   An Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree with a major in either a technical or business field or equivilent. 

     

     

    Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.  Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
