Company Information: Horton, Inc., a global airflow industry leader in reliability, service and innovation has an opening for an Engineering Process Technician to work in our Carmel location.
With general guidance from of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, works on plans to utilize personnel, facilities, processes, machinery/equipment, statistical techniques, standard measures and methods, training materials and gage usage to achieve the desired quality and quantity of production at the most favorable cost.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)
1. Develops and improves production processes including design, and implementation of process systems.
1.1 Works with production staff and others to identify opportunities for improvement,
which may include "bottlenecks" in the process or methods.
1.2 Studies existing fixtures/tooling and helps develop modifications to improve accuracy and efficiency.
1.3 Designs system processes to assure compliance with quality and engineering
1.4 Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establish
standards on operation, set up, and work station layout.
2. Provides direct problem-solving support to the production & maintenance functions.
2.1 Troubleshoots and solves problems for assembly, machining production

4. Other duties as assigned.
COMMON PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Uses a computer terminal, networked software, business system, CAD system, hand tools, machine tools, Inspection equipment, Material handling equipment and general office equipment.
Work is in both an office and plant environment. The worker is occasionally exposed to moving machinery and noise.
A. Strength and movement: Work requires occasional lifting, reaching, and handling of equipment and reports. Occasional keyboard use is required. Study of machine operations may require occasional kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing or crawling to observe moving parts. A considerable amount of time is spent moving within the facility to communicate with staff and observe production processes.
B. Sensory ability: Vision must be sufficient to read instructions and words and numbers on paper and computer screens, calibrate instruments and measure small objects at a distance less than 20 inches. Far vision, depth perception and field of vision must be sufficient to observe the details of work in progress, machine operation and assembly of small parts found in gauges
C. Communication: Verbal communication occurs frequently, with much of the time spent communicating with individuals from various departments.
D. Level of exertion: Work is medium, requiring occasional exertion of up to 40 pounds of force to move materials or equipment.
A. Reading Ability: The position requires the ability to read text of considerable difficulty, requiring the understanding of complex rules, technical procedures or specifications.
B. Writing: Writing skills are required at a level consistent with the ability to persuade the reader, as when making capital improvement proposals and technically enough to communicate training, procedural documents and management reports.
C. Verbal Skills: Verbal communication needs to be on a level consistent with providing explanations on technical matters.
D. Math Skills: The position requires the ability to conduct operations research or perform calculations involving algorithms, calculus or advanced statistical methods.
E. Reasoning Ability: Reasoning ability is required at the level of solving difficult to identify problems where facts may be incomplete or misleading and extensive inquiry or research extending into other work areas is necessary. Solutions require integration of information and considerable independent judgment.
EMPLOYMENT SELECTION CRITERIA
Requires a 2-year technical degree, or 4 or more years of hands on manufacturing experience. Requires strong organizational, communication, leadership and project management skills. Need the ability to read and understand blue prints. Requires knowledge of lean, 6s and Kaizen principles. Preferred knowledge and certification in ISO1400 and or IAFT.
