Position Summary:
The Senior Engineering Technician position assists in the development of new products, improvement of existing products, and understanding of competitive products by conducting data acquisition, testing and troubleshooting for all customers. Sets up and operates product test equipment. Develops new test methodologies / systems and reaches outside of Horton to learn research new methods, techniques and best practices that might be applicable. Conducts testing of components for internal/external customers and writes reports summarizing the test results. This may include travelling to customer sites independently to conduct testing. Assembles and tests prototype designs/products and provides input to engineering team.

Senior Engineering Technician Responsibilities:
1. Samples and tests in-house and vendor supplied components according to engineering evaluation request instructions.
2. Works with design engineering staff to test parts under development and assemble and test product prototypes.
3. Supports on-going cost reduction efforts by conducting testing of new / alternate parts to determine whether function or reliability will be affected.
4. Evaluates new technologies and test methods to determine their effectiveness in uncovering weaknesses in existing or proposed designs.
5. Interface with customers and sales representatives answering questions related to product operation, testing and performance.
6. Performs housekeeping duties related to work area. Daily maintenance of the work area including returning tools to the proper locations and general area cleanliness.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Senior Engineering Technician Qualifications:
The position requires skills and knowledge consistent with that of four years of college or trade school or equivalent plus 6-8 years of technical or closely related experience. Note: equivalent education equals 2 years of closely related experience for 1 year of education.
